Meet the owner and operator, Jose
Meet Jose, the owner and operator of La Escuelita. Jose is a local Nicaraguan surfer with over 15 years of experience. He is the humble titleholder of several gold medals and was the Nicaraguan national long-boarding surf champion from 2008- 2018. He won the title of best long-boarder in Central America three times, and most recently won it in 2017. Jose’s greatest accomplishment was winning the long-boarding competition at the first ever Central American Olympics 2018. After competing for many years, Jose has decided to focus all of his energy on sharing his passion for this sport with as many other people as possible, which is why he has started La Escuelita. His many years of experience surfing, and teaching surf makes him a knowledgeable, trustworthy, and passionate instructor. While Jose loves the water, he also loves nature and animals. Jose owns an organic farm where he grows his own food, raises farm animals, and uses sustainable practices to enrich the land. He is also the proud father of his daughter Luna, and truly understands the essence of family. Although Jose wants to share his passion for surfing, his ultimate goal is to make people feel like part of his little surf family. Come learn from this humble legend, you won’t regret it!
Meet Wesley, The business ManagerWesley is a passionate local surfer who started surfing at just 13 years old! Wesley has more than eight years of surf teaching experience and he has competed in, and won many short-board surf competitions. Wesley's passion for surfing shines greatly through his teaching methods, and he provides a safe and trusting environment for all levels of students to learn the sport. |
Meet Sebastian, surf coachSebastian is a local surf competitor, who is still frequently participating and winning, in both short-board and long-board competitions! Sebastian has been winning surf titles since he was a young child, and his surfing is endlessly improving as he continues to train hard and compete. Sebastian's kind personality and surf skills make for a great surf coach combination. His patience and commitment to his students is the reason he is such a great addition to La Escuelita. Meet Marlon, the head surf coachMarlon started surfing when he was 13 years old, and he has never lost his passion for the sport. His love for the ocean, and for riding the waves is contagious, and anyone who has the opportunity to learn from him will immediately feel this passion too. This makes him an amazing coach, who is dedicated to teaching the sport, and is always having fun while doing it. To Marlon, teaching surf is not just a job, it is truly what he loves to do. Meet Kate, The Social Media Representative & English ConsultantKate is the only member of the La Escuelita team who is not Nicaraguan born. However, after travelling to the country, she fell in love with the town of San Juan Del Sur and considers the country to be her second home, apart from Canada. Kate took many surf lessons with Jose and his team, and after building a close friendship with them all, she has become a part of the La Escuelita family. Kate is the Social Media Representative and the English Consultant for the business. Kate loves the ocean, surfing, working with the Nicaraguan locals, and making friends with people from all of the world! She is looking forward to hanging out with people at La Escuelita and ensuring that every guest has the best time at surf camp!
